No, 7-8 Hours of Sleep is Not Crazy—here’s why.

We all know that the National Sleep Foundation recommends 7-9 hours of sleep per night, but for most of us, that’s easier said than done. Many of us get to the end of the day and find that we just can’t fall asleep, no matter what we do. Still others sleep for the recommended time, but still wake up feeling groggy or unrested. Whatever the reason for your sleep deprivation, your health is at risk so try these simple lifestyle changes to get more sleep starting tonight!

  1. Treat Sleep Disorders – Our very first tip is of course to treat any sleep disorder you may be suffering from such as Sleep Apnea. If you have Sleep Apnea, CPAP Central can help you find the right equipment to help you sleep better at night.
  2. Stick to Your Bedtime AND Wake Time – Going to bed at the same time each night and waking up at the same time helps train your body to fall into a deep sleep right away. If you need to adjust that time, do it in 15 minute increments each night.
  3. Take Cat Naps – If you lost sleep the night before, make up your sleep debt by napping for 30 minute increments in the early afternoon. DO NOT sleep in.
  4. Avoid After-Dinner Sleepiness – If you start to get drowsy after dinner, but before your normal bedtime, do an activity that will stimulate your brain or body. Doing this helps you avoid waking in the middle of the night, which might happen if you go off to bed early.

Other tips to help you get a better night’s sleep include avoiding light from mobile devices right before bed, being more active in the daytime, taking in as much light as you can during the day and maintaining a healthy diet.

If you or someone you love is losing sleep due to Sleep Apnea or an ill-fitting CPAP mask, CPAP Central is here to help! We are available via live chat Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST., and our online catalog has a diverse range of CPAP equipment.
