Spring Clean your CPAP

Spring is in the air, which can only mean one thing: it’s time to start thinking about doing a nice deep clean of your house.

Your place of residence isn’t the only area that needs cleaning, however.  That’s why in today’s blog post, the experts at CPAP Central are addressing how to keep your CPAP mask and machine clean to keep the CPAP supplies in working order and keep you healthy and germ free.

Daily CPAP Cleaning

CPAP Central recommends that you clean off your CPAP mask with a damp cloth EVERY DAY to keep germs from building up.  To make this process extremely easy, there are CPAP mask wipes available for purchase.  Also, remember to empty your water chamber daily and drain any excess water that has been left in the tubing.  When you’ve emptied these items, please hang them to dry.

Weekly CPAP Cleaning

To keep the CPAP mask really clean, CPAP Central would recommend that you soak your CPAP mask in warm soapy water once per week.  Soaking for about 30 minutes will provide a deep clean without damaging the CPAP mask.  Are you also wondering what soap to use?  In our experiences, we have found the best results with mild soaps such as Ivory or Dawn dish soaps.

Monthly CPAP Cleaning

When it comes to your CPAP machine, CPAP Central recommends rinsing out the filter with warm water and wiping down the entire CPAP machine on a monthly basis.  This will keep everything in working order and free of germs.

Every 6 Months

It is also widely recommended that you replace your CPAP mask every six months and your CPAP tubes every three months.  Most insurance plans will cover a new CPAP mask every six months so be sure to check your insurance and take advantage of this great deal.

As always, CPAP Central is here to answer all of your CPAP therapy questions.  We’re available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST on our live chat, and can walk you through purchasing the right items.

Save Time with the SoClean

Dishes pile up in the sink, the litter box becomes full, and the trash can is overflowing. If you’re so busy that you have trouble getting to your regular household chores, we’re going to guess that you don’t often get the opportunity to clean your CPAP machine and supplies as well.

Just like they made dishwashers, trash compactors, and litter boxes that clean themselves, there is also  a product that automatically cleans your CPAP machine and supplies: the SoClean® 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizer.

Made by Better Rest Solutions, the SoClean uses atomized air to kill 99.9% of the bacteria that builds up in your CPAP supplies. It does this by using an activated oxygen generator. The air that surrounds us is made of two atoms of oxygen.  What SoClean does is breaks down the air molecules and then re-combines them into a molecule made up of three atoms of oxygen. This type of molecule is known as activated oxygen.

The activated oxygen is then circulated through the CPAP machine via the humidifier chamber. It also makes its way to the hose and mask, killing organic matter it comes into contact with, including mold, bacteria, and viruses.

Activated oxygen is one of the safest methods of sanitation. In fact, many municipal water facilities use it to purify the water you drink. Oxygen doesn’t stay activated long and breaks down into the regular, two-atom oxygen after a couple of hours.

The SoClean looks like a rectangular-shaped box. To use it, you first connect your hose to your CPAP machine and your CPAP mask, as if you were about to use it for the night. Then you open up the top of the SoClean and put the CPAP mask inside. It then pumps the activated the oxygen through your entire device, sanitizing the water in the humidifier reservoir and killing germs on the surfaces.

It takes about 10 minutes for the air to cycle through the CPAP machine, followed by a two hour waiting period for the oxygen to de-activate.

You have enough problems finding time for everything you need to get done throughout the day. Don’t let cleaning your CPAP machine be another one. With free shipping on all orders over $99, there’s never been a better time to order it from our online catalog.

Finding Happiness with CPAP Therapy

It takes some adjustment to get used to CPAP therapy, but these tips can help you find happiness with your therapy.

It takes some adjustment to get used to CPAP therapy, but these tips can help you find happiness with your therapy.

Whether you’re new to CPAP therapy or someone who has used it to treat sleep apnea for years, there are steps are you can take to help make your therapy as effective as possible. In observance of August as Happiness Happens Month, CPAPCentral.com wants to offer you tips to make sure you are as happy as you can be with your CPAP therapy.

Getting Used to Your CPAP Equipment

Let’s face it, it’s going to take some time for you to adjust to CPAP therapy. In a very short period of time, you will go from the way you’ve slept your whole life to sleeping with a mask on your face and air being pushed through your airway. Give yourself some time to get used to the changes. You can start by wearing your mask while you’re awake and for short periods of time during naps. As for the air pressure, many CPAP machines are fitted with ramp-up features that allow you to fall asleep at a lower pressure before increasing to your prescribed pressure once asleep.

Keep Your CPAP Equipment in Top Shape

You use your CPAP equipment every night, which means that you need to make sure you are taking care of the equipment so it can last as long as it is supposed to. The best way to do this is to develop a regular schedule for cleaning and maintaining your equipment. Some chores need to be done daily, some weekly, and others bi-monthly.

Consider Comfort Supplies

While your mask, humidifier, and CPAP machine are all you need in order to receive your therapy, you may need more than this to truly be happy with your CPAP. CPAP comfort supplies could be the solution you need. CPAP Pillows are specially designed with CPAP users in mind.  Their unique shape improves mask comfort and leakage, and can make sleeping with CPAP tubing more comfortable. CPAP strap pads or liners may improve your therapy experience as well. Strap pads prevent your CPAP mask straps from leaving marks on your face and make wearing mask headgear more comfortable. Perhaps you find your CPAP comfortable, but have difficultly relaxing before falling asleep with your CPAP.  An aromatherapy system may be what you need. CPAPCentral.com carries the PUR-SleepTM line of aromatherapy products which are specially designed for use with CPAP. Many users find the scents to be relaxing and enjoyable.  Spend some time researching CPAP comfort supplies.  Talk with your friends, physician, or our CPAP experts at CPAPCentral.com.  Trying a new CPAP comfort supply could take your CPAP therapy from good to great.

Replacing CPAP Equipment

After using your equipment every night for months, pieces of your equipment will need to be replaced. This will help ensure your CPAP therapy continues to be effective and that you’re not losing out on performance due to equipment that is past its useful life. If you have a schedule for replacing your equipment, you won’t have to worry about losing sleep due to ineffective equipment.

CPAPCentral.com carries a full line of CPAP machines, CPAP masks, and other CPAP equipment. Contact us to learn more about how we can help you treat your sleep apnea and sleep better.
